Green tea for weight loss seems to be all over the internet lately. Although it might not be the fastest way to lose weight, it sure is one of the easiest. I really didn't know too much about it until recently. That's only because I scoffed at the idea of a person being able to drink something and lose weight without any exercise or dieting. I thought it was ridiculous, but the idea has been around for some time, and doesn't show any signs of fading. Is it really possible to raise your metabolism and lose weight just by drinking green tea? I decided to do a little digging and find out for myself. Turns out I was half right.
Drinking 3-5 cups of green tea a day can help you burn 70-80 calories per day. This is just from drinking the green tea, with no change in diet or exercise. So I was wrong to assume that only drinking the tea could help you lose weight. At the same time, the 70-80 calories that it's burning, isn't really doing that much. It's like taking on a tank with a sword. You may be able to chip away at it a little bit, but ultimately, you're going to need a bigger weapon.
Adding Green Tea Weight Loss to Your Arsenal
Don't completely rule out tea because it's not the 'magic pill'. Coupled with diet and exercise, it could be that little extra bump you need to make your weekly calorie requirement. It can also help speed up your metabolism, which will help you burn calories when you're not working out. A lot of the calorie burning traits in the tea come from the caffeine and EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate).
EGCG actually stimulates the nervous system, and causes fat to get released into the blood stream for the body to use as fuel. This is called thermogenesis. A process that provides extra energy, gets rid of extra water, and helps burn body fat.
Increase Your Endurance
Exercise combine with green tea makes for a great start in the battle of the bulge. It has also been known to increase endurance, by stifling the amount of carbohydrates that are used. In fact, a study using green tea extract on lab rats increased the amount of time the animals could swim before becoming exhausted by as much as 24%. Unfortunately if you're looking for the fastest way to lose weight, this method will be a lot slower than some would let on.

Green tea also has a lot of powerful antioxidants that weed out the free radicals that can damage DNA and cause cancer, blood clots, or a stroke. Other health benefits include lowering cholesterol levels, combating infection, and even helping with rheumatoid arthritis.
When all is said and done green tea; weight loss diets, do speed up the metabolism and help with burning fat. However if you're looking for it to have any significant effect, you should seriously consider exercising, and eating right to see optimal results.
