Looking Older is now a Matter of Choice

By Alistair Nole

It's more accepted these days that certain signs of aging, such as wrinkles or a loss of elasticity in the skin, are best treated in consultation with a cosmetic surgeon. To get the results that you want, proper treatment will provide the correct course of action to target excessive skin or a loss of collagen in certain parts of the face. In the past ten years, there has been dramatic growth in the number of treatment options available, and they are becoming even more popular. What motivates people these days to undergo treatments?

Self esteem is certainly at the heart of many people's decision to seek treatments. Some seek improved confidence, and decreased self-consciousness. For example, one may think they have a large or conspicuous nose. Whether true or not, if one believes this to be true, the perception can create the reality and cause discomfort and anxiety. For some who work very hard to look their best, whether it be through exercise, diet, clothes, makeup, et cetera, an area that they would like to make just a bit better or a problem or flaw that they can improve upon, can be quite important. This becomes even more important when it is linked to sexuality.

A person's sense of improvement in quality of life or work can actually be the end result of a change. This can include things like wearing the bathing suits and clothes you want to wear. Or, going to the beach is enjoyable for you, and you want to feel good about your body. Perhaps you deal with the public a lot or have a very public job. These factors all contribute to the decision.

Vanity, which can be closely connected with self esteem, is one of the top motivators. It's only natural to want to regain a lost positive attribute. For example, my lips used to be full but now... , my figure was always nice but now.... When you lose an attribute on which you had positive reinforcement over the years, it's like losing your identity.

It's completely normal to want to slow down, reverse or turn back those effects of aging that start to show up, or have been creeping up for some time. In addition, it's equally normal to want to improve or change a feature that you never liked. This can be an issue of maturity-- you thought about it a lot when you were younger and after years of reflection have realized that it definitely is something you would like improved.

Another motivator is health reasons. The various unpleasant postpartum changes to the body can be depressing for any mom. It could also be necessary to relieve physical factors or symptoms, as well as the real tangible benefit that comes with correcting post-weight loss body changes. For example, a breast reduction could alleviate chronic recurrent headaches, neck strain, lower back pain, shoulder notching, numbing or tingling in the hands due to nerve stretch-- all of these are associated with mammary hypertrophy--or excessively large, heavy, dense breasts. A breast reduction procedure completely remedies almost all of these problems.

Dramatic changes in life are another motivating factor. People may feel like they are wearing their divorce on their face or that their job, or some other significant life stress has aged them. Whatever the reasons, there are clear, safe and affordable options available for anyone looking to make those changes or small corrections.
